Animal Control

All animals within the City limits must be on a leash at all times. When not on a leash the animal shall wear a muzzle. All animals that are housed outdoors within the City limits must be supplied with an all weather shelter which should include an adequate water and food supply.

No animal should be left outside for extended periods of time (greater than one hour) if the animal has the propensity of barking or causing a public nuisance.

All animals that have a propensity for violence are not allowed in any public place without a handler that is under complete control of the animal at all times. The animal in question must wear a muzzle.

No owner should possess more than two dogs and two cats on the same property within the City of Dauphin limits. Violations of this by-law will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Owners should not allow any animal in their possession to deposit excrement on any property, public or private, without subsequently collecting the excrement after the animal. Owners of a female dog(s) in heat should confine the dog(s) in their residence or a licensed kennel for the duration of the heat.

Dogs or cats are not permitted to be at large within the City of Dauphin. Any dog or cat found running at large may be picked up and taken to the Animal Pound (The Dauphin Veterinary Clinic) and will be released only upon payment of the capture fee, pound fees, purchase of current licence (where required) and any other applicable fees. If a dog or cat is not claimed within 72 hours, it may be destroyed, at the sole discretion of the City of Dauphin.
