The magic of the movies might be coming back to Dauphin!

Dauphin Community Cinema - Concept Drawing 1

A state-of-the-art, multi-use theatre might be built adjacent to the Parkland Recreation Complex.  The 4-plex facility with stadium seating will feature new release movies, the latest technology including 3D capabilities, private rentals and special events/programming.  Recognized as the number one development people would like to see in the community (survey conducted at the Kinsmen Trade Fair 2008), a committee has been working actively in moving this project forward.

The committee, directed by the Dauphin Economic Development & Tourism Board of Directors, started 2 years ago with investigating the opportunities of attracting a movie theatre to Dauphin. Much progress has been made and the committee changed into a non-for-profit corporation named Dauphin Community Cinema. A decision was made to start and operate a ‘Community owned’ theatre. This way future profits will flow back into the community and enrich sports and recreation in our community. We have adopted this proven strategy as the ‘Countryfest model’.

Fundraising is well underway with already more than $100,000 (as per August 17, 2009) committed to the project. Construction preparation have been started and it is our goal to have the multi-plex open for business in 2010!! The goal is to raise $1.2-1.4 million. The total construction cost for the facility is estimated at $3 million.

"The architect and other experts will be involved in showing the highlights of the new facility," says Ron Hedley, chair of the committee.  Hedley also states that this is a great opportunity for community members to get involved.  "Lots of work needs to be done yet, but we are very positive about the future of the project."
