FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 1, 2021
The City of Dauphin is happy to announce the public availability of the Parkland’s first Level 3 DC Rapid Charger for Electric Vehicles. This project was made possible by the following funding partners:
1. Government of Canada – Natural Resources Canada (NRCan)– Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative (EVAFIDI) Grant
2. Province of Manitoba – Building Sustainable Communities Grant
3. Fusion Credit Union
4. Dauphin Consumers Co-op
5. John’s Electric Ltd.
An EV3 charger allows an Electric Vehicle to achieve an 80% charge from empty in approximately 30-45 minutes. This charger is a crucial piece of infrastructure for Electric Vehicle owners who need to charge up and get somewhere quickly, as often the chargers at their homes take approximately 8 hours for a full charge.
The pricing for use of the charger has been set at $20 per hour, and charges can be initiated by downloading the ‘FLO – EV Charging Network’ application from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Funds can be added to the account and charging sessions can be initiated via the application.
This EV3 Charger will enhance the City of Dauphin’s efforts to encourage business development and tourism within the City and the Region. Part of this goal is to encourage electric cars as an attractive option for Manitobans. Level 3 Rapid Chargers will not only meet the needs of visitors and residents, but also commuters who travel to Dauphin each day from outside communities.
