Approximately 80 people attended the official swearing-in ceremony for City Council on evening of Thursday, October 30th, representing many local community organizations, senior City management, along with friends and families of the Council members. The newly elected members of Council were piped into the Council Chambers by Doug Storey, and the national anthem was sung by the Barbershop Quartet prior to the start of the official proceedings. The Oaths of Office were conducted by The Honourable Provincial Court Judge, Christine Harapiak, with an honour guard provided by Staff Sergeant Lee Fortin of the Parkland RCMP. Following the completion of the Oaths of Office, members of Council took their seats at the Council table and provided individual remarks.
Mayor Irwin also recognized outgoing members of Council, Wes Bernat and Martin Kaminski by thanking them for their service, hard work, and level of professionalism.
Council then passed two resolutions, with the first appointing Allen Dowhan as Deputy Mayor, and the second committing to conducting a community consultation as quickly as practical.
The first regular meeting of the newly elected Council is scheduled for Monday, November 3, 2014.
