Dealing with door-to-door sales of large household items

The Manitoba Consumer Protection Office is warning Manitobans to be cautious about door-to-door selling of large household items such as furnaces, air conditioners and water heaters as sales become more frequent during the summer months. Consumers should be aware of their rights under the Consumer Protection Act and research the recommended tips before making a deal.

Since all direct sellers must be licensed by the Consumer Protection Office, the City of Dauphin is encouraging residents to always ask to see a salesperson’s direct seller license. If a license can not be provided, verify that the company in question is licensed, by contacting the Manitoba Consumer Protection Office before making a transaction, to learn more about consumer protection issues and your rights under the law by phoning (204)945-3800 or 1(800)782-0067 (toll-free in Manitoba), by emailing consumers@gov.mb.ca or visiting gov.mb.ca/cca/cpo.
