City Beautification Advisory Committee

The City Beautification Advisory (CBA) Committee is an advisory body dedicated to enhancing the visual appeal of public spaces through the creative use of plants, trees, and landscaping. The Committee fosters civic pride, promotes environmental responsibility, and advances the beautification of Dauphin, with a strong focus on green space enhancement. 

Beautification efforts for the City are carried out by Dauphin Recreation Services and the Bloom Crew, who are responsible for:

  • Ordering and planting seasonal flowers
  • Weeding and watering Main Street planters
  • Planting and maintaining new trees
  • General park and green space maintenance

The CBA Committee is a former participant in Communities in Bloom, in which Dauphin won three national titles. That program evaluated communities on six categories: tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape, and floral displays. While Dauphin is no longer part of the program, the strong foundation built through our involvement continues to guide our work. The CBA Committee remains dedicated to upholding the same high standards in each of these areas.

CBA Programs & Initiatives

The City offers community members an opportunity to help beautify our City’s Main Street by adopting a concrete planter. There are four plans to choose form:

  • Adopter plants flowers for a one-year term ($35.00)
  • Adopter plants flowers for a three-year term ($100.00)
  • City plants flowers for a one-year term ($70.00)
  • City plants flowers for a three-year term ($200.00)

The City provides and maintains a plaque on your planter and will water, fertilize, and rejuvenate the soil.

The City of Dauphin follows a rotating colour theme for City Beautification initiatives. Each year features a primary colour, complemented by yellow and white accent elements. Colour themes are planned on a four-year cycle and may be adjusted based on future Council direction.

Chip and Soil Day is typically held on the first Saturday following the May long weekend at the DRS Horse Barn, located behind the Rotary Arena. Residents are encouraged to bring their own pails or bags to collect free wood chips and receive one five-gallon pail of soil per household.

The event also features the sale of perennial plants. Residents who wish to donate extra plants may contact Councillor Kathy Bellemare at 204-647-7755. All proceeds from plant sales support City Beautification Advisory (CBA) projects in Dauphin.

The City hosts a tree giveaway in which Dauphin residents and businesses are eligible to sign up for. The City picks five or six varieties that are suited to Dauphin’s planting zone. The trees are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event is not held every year. On a giveaway year, notification is provided in May. To inquire about the event, contact City Hall at 204-622-3200.

Each year, members of the City Beautification Advisory (CBA) Committee recognize Dauphin properties that demonstrate exceptional care and curb appeal. Committee members tour the community and present door-knocker acknowledgements to residents whose properties are well-maintained, landscaped, and notable in appearance.

Curbside Giveaway Weekend takes place annually on the third weekend in September. The event provides residents with an opportunity to give unwanted household items a second life while reducing landfill waste. 

Residents are encouraged to place reusable items at the curb on their front street with a visible “FREE” sign. Items that are unsafe, broken, or subject to infestation (such as mattresses or bedding) should not be included.

The City of Dauphin hosted its first Community-Wide Yard Sale in 2025 with an overwhelming response from residents. This initiative provides residents with the opportunity to host their own sales while being included on the official public map.

The next Community-Wide Yard Sale will take place in 2026, with the date to be announced. Residents within City limits may register their sale at no cost once registration opens. The map allows the public to easily locate and attend multiple sales across the community in a single day.
